Research and Innovations
Development of demand-driven agricultural technologies and innovations, utilizing advanced tools such as precision agriculture, modeling, and biotechnology, is a key priority under TARI. Emphasis is placed on creating technologies that respond to farmers’ needs while promoting the Agricultural Innovation System (AIS) approach and inclusiveness to ensure sustainable food systems and a steady supply of raw materials for agro-industries.
This Directorate is organized into three main sections:
- Crop Research and Post-Harvest Management – focuses on developing new crop varieties, breeding, biotechnology applications, disease management, and improving post-harvest and overall crop management practices.
- Natural Resources Management and Agricultural Engineering Research – conduct studies on agroforestry, soil fertility, plant nutrition, conservation agriculture, soil and water management, and climate change. It also evaluates labour-saving technologies, conducts soil mapping and land resource assessments, and engages in collaborative research on farm implements and animal traction.
- Socio-Economics and Marketing Research – emphasize participatory approaches with stakeholders, technology adaptation, impact assessments, institutional and policy analysis, value chain studies, and the integration of household and gender perspectives.
